The 9th Congressional District consists of all of Chatham, Hoke, Lee, Moore, Randolph and Scotland and parts of Cumberland, Harnett and Richmond counties. The 9th is home to Ft. Bragg, the largest military installation in the country, which drives a significant portion of the district’s economy. The district is made up of urban, suburban and rural communities. Farming is a big industry in the 9th with many local farms growing corn, cotton, sweet potatoes and other essential crops. The 9th district includes many state and national treasures, including The Carolina Hotel in Pinehurst, the North Carolina Zoo and the Historic Depot in Hamlet. It is home to many colleges and universities, including Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville and St. Andrews University in Laurinburg.
